Shortly after her win, Eileen Gu met with the media, where a reporter asked whether she considered her two runner-up finishes as “two silvers gained or two golds lost.” The ‘snow princess’ didn’t hesitate in responding, “I’m the most decorated female freeskier in history. I think that’s an answer in and of itself.” She added, “How do I say this? Winning a medal at the Olympics is a life-changing experience for every athlete. Doing it five times is exponentially harder.”

She laughed heartily and continued, “The two medals lost situation, to be quite frank with you, I think is kind of a ‘ridiculous perspective’ to take. I’m showcasing my best skiing. I’m doing things that quite literally have never been done before, and so I think that is more than good enough, but thank you.”

Who is the Snow Princess – Eileen Gu ?

Eileen Gu is a Chinese-American global sports icon and one of the most prominent figures in modern freestyle skiing. The 22-year-old was born and raised in the United States. Eileen grew up in California and spent her summers in Beijing. Raised in a single-parent household by her Chinese mother, she identifies strongly with both nations.

Gu has made remarkable achievements in the world of freestyle skiing, all while studying at Stanford University. Not only that, but she also has a career in modelling in addition to sports. She has appeared on the cover of magazines such as the Chinese editions of Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, etc. Gu has also endorsed various brands in China and Western luxury brands.

How Eileen Gu entered the spotlight of controversy

Eileen has been the source of controversies too. She recently drew criticism from US Vice President, JD Vance for representing China instead of the United States at the Olympics. In an interview with Fox News, he stated, “I certainly think that somebody who grew up in the United States of America, who benefited from our education system, from the freedoms and liberties that make this country a great place, I would hope that they want to compete with the United States of America.”

The Olympian speaking at the USA Today claps back at Vance, saying, “So many athletes compete for a different country. People only have a problem with me doing it because they kind of lump China into this monolithic entity, and they just hate China. So it’s not really about what they think it’s about.”

Eileen Gu has a worldwide cultural impact. She not only commands each role she takes on, but she has also been a major source of inspiration for youth and is regarded as the ‘Queen’ by Gen Z.
